Tata Tigor EV: Tata Motors has breathed new life into its compact electric sedan, rolling out a significantly improved Tigor EV that addresses the most common criticisms of the previous model. The 2025 refresh brings extended range, quicker charging capabilities, and enhanced tech features while maintaining the affordability that made the original a pioneer in India’s electric vehicle landscape.
Range Anxiety? Not Anymore
The most substantial upgrade comes in the form of a new 30kWh battery pack – up from the 26kWh unit in the outgoing model – pushing the ARAI-certified range to an impressive 340 kilometers per charge. Real-world testing suggests owners can expect around 280-300km in mixed driving conditions, a meaningful improvement over the previous generation’s sometimes anxiety-inducing range figures.
“We’ve listened carefully to feedback from existing Tigor EV owners,” said Vivek Srivatsa, Head of Marketing for Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, during the launch event in Mumbai yesterday. “Range anxiety consistently topped the list of concerns, and this upgrade directly addresses that pain point.”
The enhanced range comes not just from the larger battery but also through improved thermal management and more efficient motor control algorithms. Tata engineers have apparently spent considerable time optimizing the regenerative braking system, which now offers four selectable levels of recuperation through paddle shifters behind the steering wheel.
Charging Speed Gets a Welcome Boost
Another major improvement comes in the form of faster charging capabilities. The 2025 Tigor EV now supports DC fast charging at up to 50kW, allowing the battery to juice up from 10% to 80% in approximately 55 minutes – a substantial improvement over the previous 90-minute charging time.
For home charging, the upgraded 7.2kW AC wallbox charger (up from 3.3kW) can now fully charge the car in about 4.5 hours, making overnight charging more practical for owners without access to fast-charging infrastructure.
“The charging ecosystem in India is evolving rapidly, but we recognize it’s still not as developed as we’d like,” admitted Anand Kulkarni, Vice President of Product Line & Operations at Tata Passenger Electric Mobility. “These charging improvements provide more flexibility and reduce the time drivers spend tethered to a charging point.”
Fresh Looks Inside and Out
Visually, the 2025 Tigor EV sports subtle but effective design changes. The closed-off front grille features a new texture with illuminated Tata logo, while redesigned headlamps with split LED daytime running lights give the car a more contemporary appearance. New 15-inch alloy wheels with aerodynamic inserts and a choice of two fresh paint options – Magnetic Blue and Pristine White – round out the exterior updates.
Inside, the cabin receives a more comprehensive overhaul. A new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system replaces the previous 7-inch unit, now featuring wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The dated instrument cluster makes way for a 7-inch digital display that offers customizable layouts and improved clarity.
“The interior materials have been upgraded as well,” noted automotive journalist Dhruv Saxena, who attended the media drive event. “The new leatherette seats with blue contrast stitching not only look more premium but offer better support during longer drives.”
Tech and Safety Enhancements
On the technology front, the Tigor EV now comes with Tata’s iRA connected car suite, offering over 35 features including remote climate control activation, geo-fencing alerts, and driving behavior analysis. A new smartphone app allows owners to monitor charging status, pre-condition the cabin, and locate nearby charging stations.
Safety equipment has been bolstered with the addition of six airbags as standard across all variants, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, and a tire pressure monitoring system. The upgraded Tigor EV has yet to undergo NCAP testing, but Tata executives expressed confidence that it would maintain or improve upon the previous model’s four-star safety rating.

Tata Tigor EV: Pricing Strategy and Market Impact
Despite the significant upgrades, Tata has kept price increases relatively modest. The 2025 Tigor EV range starts at ₹12.49 lakh for the base XE variant and tops out at ₹15.29 lakh for the fully-loaded XZ+ Lux (ex-showroom, before state subsidies).
With established competitors like the MG Comet and Citroen eC3, plus rumored upcoming entries from Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai in the affordable EV space, Tata’s timing for this refresh seems strategic. The company currently commands over 80% of India’s electric passenger vehicle market, and the improved Tigor EV seems positioned to help maintain that dominance despite increasingly fierce competition.
Deliveries of the 2025 Tata Tigor EV are scheduled to begin next month, with bookings opening next week across all Tata dealerships and the company’s online sales portal.
